What is coronary angiography?

Coronary angiography, is an invasive diagnostic procedure and is not a type of surgery. Coronary angiography involves injecting a special dye into the heart vessels and capturing images using an imaging system. Coronary angiography is performed in advanced laboratories equipped with angiography equipment and trained and experienced cardiologists and healthcare professionals. The patient does not need to be sedated for the procedure; they are awake and able to talk during the procedure.

Coronary artery angiography should be performed in individuals with risk factors and chest pain suggestive of coronary artery disease.

• Those who have had a heart attack.

• Those who have had a previous coronary intervention (balloon-stent) or coronary artery surgery and are experiencing recurrence of chest pain.

• Survivors of sudden death.

• Those who are undergoing heart surgery (heart valve replacement) other than coronary artery disease.

• Those who are undergoing non-cardiac vascular (artery) surgery.

• Those with serious life-threatening arrhythmias.

• Those at risk who have abnormalities on non-invasive tests (ECG, echocardiography, or exercise ECG).

The patient must be fasting on the day of the procedure. Both groin areas must be shaved. They should consult their physician about any medications they are taking.

Our clinic is located in Block A - Central Building.
