Procedures performed in the Nuclear Medicine Unit include cancerous tissue, the location and stage of tumors, the presence of metastases, selecting the most appropriate biopsy site, diagnosis and monitoring of neurological conditions such as heart disease, epilepsy, and dementia, occult fractures, bone infections, kidney transplants and post-transplant monitoring, pulmonary embolism diagnosis, detection of thyroid and other gland tumors, gastrointestinal bleeding, and detection of hidden infections. PET-CT is a procedure that involves administering radioactive nuclides intravenously to the patient, who then remains motionless on a stretcher within the device for approximately 20 minutes.
